Reviews Overview

Most Liked

Patrons rave about the exceptional value for money at Shears Fisheries, often highlighting generous portion sizes without breaking the bank. Favorites like the Haddock and chips are frequently mentioned, especially at around £5.50.

The light and crispy batter is another love letter from the locals, who appreciate the perfect mix of crunch and tenderness. Customers also enjoy the quick service, often noting that meals are cooked fresh while they wait.

The extensive menu caters to diverse tastes—from kids wanting a simple sausage and chips to adults seeking the classic fish and chips experience. Each meal feels like a warm embrace from this cherished local gem.

Most Disliked

Some customers express disappointment regarding the cash-only payment policy, which can be a hassle for those unprepared. However, it does keep prices low, which many appreciate.

Occasional wait times can be a drawback during busy lunch hours, especially on Fridays—a peak day for fish and chip cravings. Still, the freshly cooked quality is often deemed worth the wait.

The small size of the establishment can lead to limited seating during peak hours, sometimes resulting in a bustling atmosphere that could feel cramped for larger groups.

Shears is legendary in these parts and somewhat historic. It is one of the only 'hole in the wall' classic fish & chip shops that still exist. If anyone wants to see how fish & chip shops were when I was growing up back in the 1970s and 1980s, I thoroughly recommend you come here. And if not for that but because the quality of the food is absolutely spot on. This is what a real fish & chip shop is like. These people know what they are doing. Delicious fish and chips from a family owned traditional shop. What is not to like. AAA++++
